Language: English

Description:

In the days of the bloodless, a healthy human is a vampire’s most valuable resource. But they’re in short supply and Vincent Du Maurier is hungry.

Evie could be the last human being alive—and she’s pregnant—which makes her situation most inconvenient for Vincent. As he struggles to keep her and her unborn child from both the jaws of the bloodless and the fangs of his starving clan, he faces the most difficult choice of his long life.

If he gives in to his gnawing hunger, he risks a destiny worse than that of the shades in Hades. But if he denies his nature, he could end up turning into something far worse—a vampire with humanity.

Review

An ancient vampire's diary chronicles life and undeath in a postapocalyptic world in this fast-paced, suspenseful novel. It is sometime during the latter half of the 21st century, and the plague of the Red Death--a disease that infects both humans and vampires--has given rise to the Bloodless, hordes of zombie-like creatures hungrily hunting down the handful of survivors. Powerful vampire Vincent Du Maurier, sworn to protect his starving clan, soon realizes that in order to save the vampires he must also save humankind. But after capturing a young girl named Evie, Vincent's reasons for keeping her safe start to muddle, and his long-dormant humanity slowly begins to reassert itself. Ambroziak builds Vincent into a many-layered and sympathetic antihero while developing a host of secondary characters who demand attention. Science fiction and horror fans alike will anxiously race toward this journal's end (which provides an obvious setup for a series) and eagerly request the next installment. *Publishers Weekly *

This was a dark and creepy story that pulled me in from the beginning ... Written in a very sophisticated style, as is befitting of the journal of an ancient and cultured vampire such as Vincent, The Journal of Vincent du Maurier is simply a fantastic read in its genre. I would highly recommend it to any reader who loves fantasy, vampires, zombies, or just great fiction in general. This is the first book that I have read by author K.P. Ambroziak, but it won't be my last. Readers' Favorite

From the Author

I wrote THE JOURNAL OF VINCENT DU MAURIER as a standalone novel several summers ago. I was taken with the idea of the vampire struggling to survive an already wilting world, hit by a plague that would rob him of his livelihood, and source for life. I toiled with the end, originally killing Evelina (who was named Evelyn at one time), and woke one morning to a frightful and foreboding thought--she is not dead, but undead. I re-wrote the ending and gave her the fate she has at the finale of this book. But Vincent and Evelina will not go away and so I begged the archaeologists in my mind to unearth more artifacts like the journal found on the grassy peak of Hábunga. They have been successful and with that, a second book will be released midsummer 2015. Despite this candid confession and my perhaps unintended spoiler, I hope you will continue to read Vincent's journal.
