After two hundred years of isolated existence, the colonists of Capicua, a fertile super-earth orbiting Gliese 667C, find themselves confronted with a newly arrived paramilitary force aiming to impose annexation through force of arms.
Oblivious to the impending invasion, Toni Miura joins Capicua’s decrepit armed forces in a bid to escape domestic troubles, aiming for the privilege of driving the Hammerhead, a bipedal armored suit which is the epitome of his planet´s ailing warrior spirit.
With the arrival of the earthborn raiders, Toni’s unqualified platoon, brimming with misfits and plagued by internal differences, finds itself suddenly thrown into the midst of battle. Abandoned by their seniors in the course of their mission, Toni and the remnants of his unit become lost in the wilderness of a world which, owing to the nature of its orbit, suffers periodically from planet-wide hurricane conditions.
So begins a race against time, where a handful of cadets will be forced to outmaneuver a pursuing enemy in the boondocks of a turbulent planet, all the while seeking to deliver an odd but important Bavarian prisoner-of-war to their Headquarters.

To those of you unfamiliar with my work, Descent into Mayhem is my first foray into fiction literature. The first edition to make its way onto Amazon was fraught with errors; there were structural and pacing issues to work out, and the book contained a dose of highly technical science-fiction that turned many potential readers away.
The criticism levied against Descent into Mayhem in these respects was well-justified and, as I slowly came to terms with this harsh reality, I began to sharpen my knives. I then began to kill my literary darlings, one by one.
The end result is this second edition of Descent into Mayhem, one which I suspect still requires finer polishing before it can truly be considered a professionally written book.
As my writing improves, I will continue to develop this first installment of the Capicua Chronicles; I believe that this is my obligation as an independent author. I also consider it an obligation to fully respect opinions expressed by those who took the time to read this book, including the unfavorable ones.
After all, some of the greatest improvements to this work have come as a result of harsh, honest reviews. I thank those readers above all others.
About the Author
Born in Portugal but raised in South Africa, Bruno Goncalves is one of those odd people whose sentences sometimes begin in one language and end in another.
After a few years dedicating his life to combat engineering, Bruno somehow managed to fool the Portuguese government into offering him a pistol and a badge. This achievement is still a source of some amusement to him. He has since been working as a Police officer by day, but at night he reads and writes science fiction novels.
His greatest enemy? Television. Oh, and Youtube. Especially the funny cat videos. That'll distract him from his writing in an instant. On the other hand, he also relies heavily upon Youtube's epic music clips for writing inspiration.
