Description:

Wilderness survival is never easy.
It’s even more difficult when you’re alone, equipped with only a camp-axe and a knife, and surrounded by predators.
But suppose the wilderness is North America at the end of the ice age, the Pleistocene?  And suppose those predators include huge short-faced cave bears, grizzlies, lions, dire wolves, and saber-toothed cats?
How will you survive?
Alone, at least in the beginning, surrounded by predators…
Some of whom are human.

From the Author

This is the first book of a series, the Darwin's World Series.
Darwin's World begins as the protagonist, known only as Matt, is transplanted to a parallel Earth where humans did not survive. The time period is the late Pleistocene, and the location where Matt is dropped off is east Texas.  He's alone, almost unarmed, with only a knife and hatchet.
Why 'Darwin's World'? The Futurists who selected him, rebuilt his aged body, and dropped him here expect him to live or die on his own. It really does come down to survival of the fittest. This process is intended to select those with high levels of determination, courage, and will to live.
The Futurist's society is dying. Despite conquering disease and death, people have stopped having children. With nothing new to discover, they simply get bored and terminate their existence. Humanity is dying. A few hope that transplanting those who demonstrate the ability to survive despite immense challenges will revive their declining future civilization.
This the setting. Book one deals with survival of the individual and joining with a few others. Eventually Matt and his acquired 'family' join a tribe. But they're threatened by rogue humans who outnumber them, and their location is not easy to defend. They determine to leave and seek a more defensible place to live. The story continues in Book Two, The Trek.
