Kindle Scout Interview

Kindle Scout: What is the inspiration for the story?

Jake Lingwall: As a software engineer, I spend a lot of time writing code, thinking about the future and working with a bunch of men. So, I wanted to write a book about what the future might look like that featured a strong, intelligent hacker to hopefully inspire all kinds of people to pursue a STEM education.

Kindle Scout: Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?

Jake Lingwall: I think there are a few powerful themes and messages in Freelancer that developed organically as I wrote the book. But I've never been a fan of telling people what they should take away from a story. Let's just say I hope you don't read the entire novel without asking yourself a few tough questions.

Kindle Scout: Why do you write?

Jake Lingwall: I write because I constantly feel the natural drive to create something new. Programming provides one outlet for that, as does making board games. But there is something about telling a story and sharing characters with people that is inherently rewarding. You should try it if you haven't already.

Kindle Scout: If readers enjoy __ these books, will they enjoy Freelancer?

Jake Lingwall: Great question. I think any fans of sci-fi/cyberpunk books with strong characters will love Freelancer. A few novels that really stand out to me are Ready Player One, Divergent, Ender's Game and even the Hunger Games. Kari is a great character that can do amazing things in a futuristic setting. But, I think people will find Freelancer to be a very unique story.

Thanks for checking out Freelancer! Look for news about book 3 coming soon!
